Roofing Contractor in Jay, FL for Farmhouses, Barns and Shops

Weather Tech Roofing is a roofing contractor in Jay, FL. We repair and replace roofs on farmhouses, rural homes, barns and local businesses. Jay is a small town in northern Santa Rosa County. We serve it from our Pensacola storefront. Our team plans each roof for long, hot summers and hard storm winds.

Santa Rosa County's economic office places Jay in the heart of the county's farm country. UF/IFAS Extension lists cotton, peanuts and soybeans as the county's major crops. Farm properties often pair a home with barns, equipment sheds and storage buildings. We roof all of them, from the farmhouse to a long machine shed.

Metal roofing works on homes as well as farm buildings. It sheds rain fast and holds up well in strong sun. We also install asphalt shingles for owners who want that look on the house. When you need new storage space, we build complete pole barns and other buildings too.

Roof Replacement in Jay for Farmhouses and Metal Buildings

A farmhouse roof and a barn roof need different care. On a house, we tear off the old roofing and fix any soft deck boards. Then new underlayment goes down. Underlayment is a water barrier that sits under the shingles or metal.

Metal buildings bring a problem of their own: dripping on cool, damp mornings. That water is condensation, which forms when the panel gets colder than the air's dew point. During a barn or shop re-roof, we can add insulation or a vapor barrier under the panels. Good roofing in Jay keeps hay, seed and equipment as dry as the farmhouse.

  • Barn re-roofs with rotted purlins replaced before the new metal panels go on
  • Insulation or a vapor barrier under metal panels to cut down on dripping
  • Farmhouse roof replacement in metal or asphalt shingles over a sound deck

Roofing Choices for Farmhouses, Shops and Storefronts in Jay

Barns and sheds often use exposed fastener metal panels, which screw straight through into the framing. Standing seam metal hides its fasteners under raised seams and is a common choice for homes. We install both, plus asphalt shingles. A shop or storefront with a flat roof needs something else. For those, we install TPO, a single-ply sheet made for low-slope roofs.

Siding Contractor in Jay for Farmhouses and Rural Homes

Siding guards your walls from rain, wind and summer sun. We install, replace and repair vinyl and fiber cement siding. Fiber cement comes in lap boards and board-and-batten styles that suit a farmhouse.

  • Fiber cement siding with a factory paint finish or ready for your own color
  • Vinyl siding for homes where low upkeep matters most
  • Siding repair after wind cracks or tears panels on an open, exposed wall

Straight-Line Winds in North Santa Rosa County and Metal Roofs

Strong wind here does not always come from a hurricane. On May 10, 2024, straight-line winds of 80 to 110 mph hit from Jay to Berrydale. That is the National Weather Service estimate. Trees snapped along and south of State Highway 4. Near Allentown, metal roofing from a small barn was thrown about 200 yards toward the road.

Wind gets under metal panels at the edges, then lifts and peels them back. That pull runs through every screw, purlin and truss connection down to the posts. After a wind storm, we fix lifted panels, replace backed-out screws and refasten loose trim. On open-sided barns, sound bracing helps the whole frame hold together. Our local roofers also make these wind repairs in nearby Milton.

How long will a metal roof last on a farmhouse in Jay?

InterNACHI, a national home inspector group, lists metal roofs at 40 to 80 years. The panel finish, the fasteners and upkeep all affect where a roof falls in that range. Jay sits well inland, away from the salt air that wears on coastal metal.

Can a Jay roofer fix just the storm-damaged panels on my barn?

Yes, in many cases we can replace only the bent or torn panels. If the purlins under them are sound, new panels fasten right back in. Rotted or broken framing needs repair first, or the new panels won't hold.

Is a shingle roof still a good option for a Jay farmhouse?

Yes, we install asphalt shingles on farmhouses as well as metal. Shingles cost less up front, while metal tends to last longer. Some owners match the house to the barn with metal, and others keep shingles on the house.

Can a Jay roofing company build a new pole barn from the ground up?

Yes, we build complete pole barns and other buildings from start to finish. Size, height and door openings get planned around the equipment you need to store.

What siding looks good with a metal roof on a Jay farmhouse?

Board-and-batten fiber cement is a classic match for a metal roof. Lap siding in fiber cement or vinyl also pairs well. Vinyl makes sense when you want the least upkeep.
